Better Call Saul Season 3

Terri Schwartz of IGN rated the third season 9.1/10, praising Jimmy's character development saying: "Better Call Saul was better than it's ever been in Season 3."[20] Verne Gay of Newsday gave it an "A+" grade and wrote, "Based on the first two episodes, Saul is making a case that it could be even better than Breaking Bad."[21]

Jimmy tries to make amends with Chuck in the season finale "Lantern", but Chuck coldly cuts ties with Jimmy, telling him that "he never really mattered all that much to him". After Chuck forces Jimmy away, his EHS symptoms begin to re-emerge, and he becomes obsessed with disabling all electronic devices in his home to the point of tearing walls open to remove the wiring. He eventually reaches a breaking point and knocks a gas lantern over, setting fire to his house. After this scene, there was much speculation as to what happened to Chuck after the fire started. Showrunner Peter Gould said, "I don't want to define anything more than what's on screen".[41] Michael McKean, who played Chuck, told Vulture: "I got a call on my cell from Peter [Gould] [and] Vince [Gilligan]. I said, 'If this is the death call, I'm going to pull over.' And that's what I did. I pulled into the parking lot of the bookstore and I called them back and they told me what they had planned. They told me they had laughed about what I had said, but they had to deliver it". When asked if his character was dead, McKean said: "I am. I know they want to bring me in for some flashbacks this coming season, but that's kind of beside the point".[42] As revealed in the fourth season's premiere, Howard notifies Jimmy and Kim about the fire, and they arrive at the scene just in time to see Chuck's body being taken away.[43]

This sets the stage for Chuck's final decision. By this point, he's on the edge, and a final bout of his illness pushes him over. The final image of him sitting alone in his house with his lantern perched perilously on the desk is the image of a defeated man who has given up. Chuck's life ended at his own hand via an intentional house fire, but his presence certainly never left the Breaking Bad spinoff, continuing to make it better. Chuck's death and life continue to shape Jimmy's Better Call Saul arc throughout the show's next few seasons.

The latest episode of season 3, literally titled 'Chicanery', finally relented though, the entire thing centering around the case of James M. McGill vs. Charles McGill Jr. Better Call Saul has basically been Better Call Mike or Better Not Cross Gus Fring At All Costs in recent weeks, which is fine as the sub-plots have been more engrossing the main one, but this return of focus to the protagonist was welcome as Jimmy and Chuck going tête-à-tête in court is something we've been waiting to see for a while.

Considering the show is called Better Call Saul, it's been kind of weird to have spent two seasons with small-town lawyer Jimmy McGill and not the Saul Goodman we know and don't-quite-love from Breaking Bad.However, star Bob Odenkirk says that's about to change."In season three is the first time we get to see Saul Goodman, but not the way you think," the actor revealed at a Netflix event in Berlin. 041b061a72
